BFA Graphic Design Exit Show: Technicolor

My last semester of college I had the honor of curating my senior exit show. Curating the show meant I was the liaison between my classmates and professors, gallery assistants, and the IT department. It also meant I got to create the theme of our exhibition. I came up with the all encompassing theme called, Technicolor. Technicolor had several meanings behind it- first of which was about how as artists and designers, the 30 of us were quite a colorful bunch (in our art and personalities), but also that after five semesters together, it had become quite apparent who’s work was who’s based off of the color pallets we had each developed. I knew color was an important aspect to our cohort and defined us well. The glitchy, no signal, tv part of technicolor referred to how we had been seeing each other and ourselves during our last year in college, only on screens and walking around aimlessly with “no signal” as to when life would get back to normal. Along with creating the theme, I also had the duty of creating all the physical and digital branding for the show, ran the instagram account (@technicolor_2021), and mapped out where each person was to display their work in the gallery space. After spending many, many hours at the art school leading up to the show, I couldn’t have been more pleased with the outcome or imagined my last semester of college going any other way. Completing my capstone project, exhibiting it, and planning the entire exhibition for my peers in the midst of a pandemic was no easy task, but I took it head on, without any hesitation, and it is my biggest accomplishment to date (aside from my bat mitzvah, of course. You can’t beat becoming a woman!).

A video I made on After Effects to promote the show.

The front entrance to the main gallery. I had 8 of our illustrators (including myself) draw a technicolor tv head character that was used for promotional posters hung up all over the art school. It was very cool to have everyone be able to guess who did which characters based off of our illustration styles!

I also had a computer with our instagram pulled up at the entrance so people could read a little about the artists before entering.
